Prototype

Starting from the research I decided to develop the project into a game format:

How can a game effectively illustrate the interplay between espionage operations and legislative processes, while maintaining an engaging and accessible experience?

Final

My goal was to make a game that playfully but effectively illustrates the interplay between espionage operations and legislative processes and the legal grey area in which espionage stands. It is usually justified by the acting state but condemned by the afflicted state, and a lot of rules exist in ambiguous spaces.

“My name is Leo! I played Noemi’s game as a favor, expecting it to be quick and not particularly impressive. However, I was pleasantly surprised. We ended up playing for over two hours straight, and it was consistently enjoyable.”

The game has a bit of a learning curve. I went in without knowing the topic, which made it challenging to grasp initially. The good news is that I quickly (more or less) got the hang of it, and once I did, it became super fun to play and strategize to win. This feels like one of those games you learn best by jumping in and figuring it out as you go. In my opinion, the fact that you don’t need to spend a long time explaining the rules before starting is a big plus.

One aspect I especially loved was the role-switching mechanic in the middle of the game. It added an extra layer of complexity, forcing us to adapt to entirely new tasks and cards. This twist kept things fresh and engaging.

Additionally, I found the public trust point system to be a brilliant feature. It effectively creates a competitive atmosphere, especially since each player is responsible for tracking their own points while policymakers have the authority to ensure everyone is following the rules.

Besides, having the opportunity to role-play as an undercover businessperson in stylish outfits makes the whole experience even better. Never once did I imagine stopping a terrorist attack in stilettos, but it was absolutely worth my time.
